Mahalo for asking me to review the Classic Maui Powerhouse Stringer Tank. I appreciate that even after being home for almost a month, my opinion has been requested and valued. I am humbled.
Before launching into the review, I must acknowledge the Maui residents that have experienced the recent horrific fire tragedy. Though I’m not kama’aina, my father has been a Kihei resident since 1972 – I’ve been visiting for a long time. My heartfelt sympathy is with all Maui residents, and I wish for the best possible recovery in the least amount of time.
About the shirt... wearing stringers is a new thing for me. I’ve been on a fitness program for a while and finally decided that I could pull off wearing one. In my search for the perfect stringer, I made a few on-line purchases and wasn’t particularly happy with the results. During a recent visit to Maui, I purchased a temporary membership at the Maui Powerhouse Gym (MPHG).
They have a great selection of stringers, jackets, t-shirts, and accessory items. I chose a black one with silver design.
There is a great deal of malama and aloha in the design of all the wearable products offered at MPHG. The colours are appealing. The logo is unique, smart, catches the eye and communicates a positive message, “Lift With Aloha.” It (the logo design) fits quite well with the whole MPHG experience. The fabric is of high quality and feels comfortable to wear, especially in a hot climate. The fit is flattering. In my opinion, the shirts run true to size, but I prefer something more
fitted rather than draping. Size up if you want a looser fit. On the website, I noticed that some of the models are MPHG members providing a cool community vibe.
After returning home, I received an email thanking me for choosing MPHG and offering a discount on any purchases. Due to limited luggage weight and capacity, I had limited my choices. Otherwise, I would have bought one of each colour of the stringers.
I selected a grey stringer with a blue design. Speaking to their level of the customer service, prior to sending it, I was consulted for my final approval. A picture of the item was provided just to make sure I was happy with the colour. Who does that?! The package arrived 4 days prior to its scheduled delivery date! Additionally, a few cool swag items were thrown in, which was unexpected and quite welcome. The grey colour has a silver shimmer to it, another unique feature.
Since the fire occurred, this shirt has taken on an entire new meaning and purpose. When I wear it, I’m communicating a silent prayer for Maui’s best possible recovery. Furthermore, I take the message, “Lift With Aloha,” seriously, being a gracious gym member, yielding, sharing equipment during sets and leaving it clean for the next user.
I miss the land mine at MPHG and will do some serious lobbying to have one installed at my gym!
